In 1994 Mr. Tarbox joined MasterCard International as Vice President of Chip Card
Implementation. Mr. Tarbox managed the smart card technical migration strategy for
the 22,000 member bank association. Major accomplishments include:
- Developing a detailed presentation for the Global Board of Directors for the
estimated $12 Billion 7 year global migration to smart cards.
- Managing and participating in the development and global deployment of a joint
smart card standard with Visa and Europay. The politically sensitive "EMV
Specifications" created a common standard for global issuance and acceptance
of smart cards by banks and retailers.
- Managing the development of a series of multi-media smart card education programs
to educate member banks and the industry on smart card issues.
- Managing the development of joint Chip/SET business requirements with Visa and
Europay to support Electronic Commerce on the Internet.
- Managed MasterCard representation before ISO, ANSI, CAFE, APACS, C4 as well as
other standards and banking organizations.
- Conducted numerous public presentations and interviews with print, radio and
television on smart card issues.
Mr. Tarbox's marketing experience includes managing sales and marketing for a
start-up software company in the early 80's. The company's product was developed
and sold for CP/M and Apple computers and later ported over to the then recently
introduced IBM PC. Under his management the company's sales grew over 1400% in two
years and became recognized as the national leader in their vertical market.
Mr. Tarbox managed business development for a French Smart Card Integrator. Assisting
in opening the US marketplace the company developed opportunities with Sea-Pac bank
and the State of Wyoming for smart card systems.
Mr. Tarbox also directed international sales and marketing for a public telephone
company. He opened new market opportunities for the company in Greece, Turkey,
Singapore, Indonesia, China, Korea, Australia and New Zealand for smart card
telephones.
Mr. Tarbox also brings hands on start-up experience to his clients. In the mid 80's
he jointly started a company to provide public access to electronic mail systems
(Dialcom, CompuServe, Telenet) to consumers (prior to the Internet). Mr. Tarbox
invented the public access terminal with a monitor, keyboard, credit card and smart
card reader. Later he invented the public pay to use fax machine, these were installed
in airport lounges and major office buildings around the United States.
Mr. Tarbox was a principle in a Silicon Valley start-up to provide electronic coupons
via the Internet, the company ceased operation due to capital constraints.
Mr. Tarbox was on the Board of Directors for the Smart Card Forum. He was granted an
international patent on financial transaction cards and holds several copyrights.
Mr. Tarbox is a graduate of Cornell University where he majored in Business Management
and minored in Plant Physiology.
